Declare values before dividing
Use four circles, four triangles and four squares. Each player assigns the three shapes values 3, 2 and 1, using every value once, and writes the assignment openly before any division. Different players may value the shapes differently. Each complete deck is worth 24 to either player, although individual piles can have different values. Keep all cards face up throughout.
Divide then choose
The divider puts all twelve cards into two nonempty piles, with no card left over. They may rearrange until announcing the split is locked. The chooser then takes one entire pile; the divider gets the other. Neither may transfer a card after the choice or claim both piles. The chooser may count aloud and use their own value sheet rather than guessing the divider's preferences.
Score only your own values
Add the value of the cards you received according to your assignment. Example: the chooser values circle 3, triangle 2, square 1. A pile containing two circles, one triangle and three squares is worth 11; its complement is worth 13, so choosing the complement scores 13. The divider scores their remaining pile using the divider's assignment, which may differ.
Swap roles and reset
Record the first round, return all twelve cards and keep both value assignments unchanged. Swap divider and chooser for round two. Add each person's two scores, larger total wins, ties share. This is a tiny abstract game, not a guarantee that real-world negotiations are fair. The chooser can always select a pile worth at least half of their own total; the divider's result depends on the partition and the other's choice.
Keep choices clear
Use the printed two-pile labels and record the three shape counts before choosing. Both piles must sum to four of each shape across the table. If a count is wrong, correct it before locking. A helper may read values and add totals without selecting a pile for someone. Use fictional points only, without actual gifts or money, and stop after the agreed two rounds.

Do not remove any cards. Divide into two nonempty piles before the other player chooses.
