How to play custom word bingo

A host calls words. Players mark matching squares. Complete an agreed pattern and call “Bingo!” Here is how to set it up.

What you need

Before the first call

Give out the cards, explain that the center is free, and decide whether a complete row, column or diagonal wins. Each line contains five squares; a line through the center needs four called words plus the free square.

A worked example

If the host calls “Cupcake,” mark Cupcake if it appears on your card. Do not mark a different dessert unless the group agreed it counts. When a line is complete, call Bingo. The host checks each word in that line against the called list.

Run the caller list

Read one entry at a time and give players time to find it. Tick each called entry. The checklist is shuffled separately from the cards, and some words may not appear on every card if your set contains more than 24 entries.

What if two people win together?

Different arrangements do not prevent simultaneous winners. Decide beforehand whether to share a win or keep calling until one player completes another pattern. A full-card round takes longer than a single line.

Printing a usable set

Generate the number of cards you need, then choose Letter or A4. One card per page has larger text; two per page saves paper. In your browser print dialog, select the matching paper, keep scale at 100%, and turn off headers and footers. Inspect the PDF preview before printing.

Other bingo formats use different rules

Baby shower gift bingo uses gifts opened during the event. Human bingo uses conversations and names. Neither needs the called-word checklist. Choose the right play style in the maker so your printed instructions match.
