Set up and play

  1. Form pairs facing each other, sitting or standing with comfortable room between them.
  2. Begin seated with feet supported and hands in a comfortable visible range.

Finish the game

Follow the complete ending rule below; a guest may stop or pass without elimination.

Give the partners a simple task

Form pairs facing each other, sitting or standing with comfortable room between them. Two to twelve guests can work as separate pairs. One person leads slow visible movements; the partner copies them as a mirror. When the leader raises the hand on your left, use your hand on that same visible side, as a reflection would. Agree whether mirroring is comfortable before beginning; if the pair prefers copying the same named side instead, announce that alternate rule and keep it consistent. There is no guessing a secret action word.

Start with a seated rehearsal

Begin seated with feet supported and hands in a comfortable visible range. Try opening a hand, drawing a small circle in the air, and slowly moving both hands apart. The follower keeps movements small rather than reaching farther to match someone else. Avoid contact, sudden speed changes, closed eyes, balancing tasks, or stretching to a limit. A guest may stop or pass at any time without explanation. If a cue is uncomfortable, choose another; completing every printed card is not the goal of the activity.

Take equal leader turns

Choose a first leader and set a comfortable forty-five-second round using your own timer. Select a cue card or invent a gentle hand movement. Move slowly enough for the partner to follow continuously, rather than freezing after each gesture for a correctness check. At the announced end, pause with hands resting, exchange roles, and run another forty-five seconds. Repeat for two turns as leader each if both want to continue. The printed role record helps a host see that everyone had the same opportunity, not rank how closely a body resembles another body.

Recover from a mismatch kindly

If the movements drift apart, the leader pauses, makes the next movement smaller, and restarts when the follower is ready. Do not award penalties or identify a less coordinated participant to the whole group. An example is a slow leftward hand sweep followed by an open palm: the follower begins on the corresponding visible side and follows at their own comfortable range. Partners can say slower or smaller; this is not a silence test. Finish after the agreed role exchanges or earlier if either partner wants to stop, then share one cue that made following easier.

Use the pack without extra equipment

The materials provide six gentle cue cards, a paired role record, and a host reminder to offer seated participation. The page does not activate a camera, track movement, play sound, or supply a built-in timer. A host can read the cues aloud, use a visible clock, or simply call the role changes without timing. Guests who do not want body movement can mirror the slow position of a pencil held above paper, or observe and describe a cue. These are optional gathering adaptations, not therapy or exercise instructions. No score, physical performance claim, or contact between partners is required.

Ask which cues work before repeating

After the first pair of turns, ask each partner whether the speed and visible range felt manageable. Let them choose a different cue or remain an observer for the next exchange. A host should announce role changes clearly rather than touching someone to reposition a hand. Keep chairs stable and the space between partners clear throughout the activity.
